Fox Williams is delighted to announce the appointment of financial services regulatory partner, Omar Salem. Omar joins the firm’s financial services and FinTech team from general counsel at leading ethical finance FinTech, Algbra, bringing a wealth of experience.

Prior to joining Algbra, Omar was a managing associate in the financial regulation team at Linklaters, where he trained, qualified, and practised for almost a decade.

Fox Williams’ financial services and FinTech group, led by partners Jon Segal and Sona Ganatra, works with a diverse range of clients, including banks, payment services firms, and FinTechs. The team advises on complex regulatory landscapes and compliance matters, reinforcing Fox Williams’ position as a leading financial services law firm. Omar’s appointment further enhances the firm’s expertise and client offering, providing a unique perspective from his experience as a general counsel.

Omar’s deep understanding of the practical needs of general counsels and in-house lawyers, through his previous roles, adds a valuable dimension to the team. His experience includes broad financial regulation expertise, advising on a range of key areas, including banking, payments, electronic money, trading and wealthtech platforms, mortgages, consumer credit, asset management, and M&A regulatory due diligence and change in control.

Commenting on his appointment, Omar said: “I am excited to join Fox Williams and the talented financial services and FinTech team. Fox Williams has a strong and growing reputation for its practical approach to advising clients on complex regulatory issues. I look forward to bringing my extensive experience of private practice combined with being a general counsel at a fast-growing fintech to support clients.”

Sona Ganatra, partner and co-head of the financial services group at Fox Williams, adds: “Omar is an exceptional addition to our team, and we are delighted to welcome him. His comprehensive regulatory expertise combined with practical experience of being a general counsel is unique in the market and will hugely benefit our clients. It will also further strengthen our financial services and FinTech offering, which has been growing rapidly.”

Omar is the firm’s second lateral hire this year. His arrival follows that of payments and FinTech specialist Chris Hill earlier this year.
