Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP continues the expansion of its Land Use Practice on Long Island with the addition of John R. DiCioccio (“J.R.”), as a shareholder in the Bridgehampton office. DiCioccio joins the powerhouse law firm after 12 years of public service in Islip, the last six as Islip town attorney.
“J.R. joins a cadre of Greenberg Traurig attorneys on Long Island who know local government and how to get deals done fast and efficiently. As the former Islip Town Attorney, J.R. brings deep land use experience and is the latest addition to our award winning national and global Real Estate Practice. We remain committed to growing our Real Estate Practice, especially the synergy among the Long Island, New York, Westchester, and Florida markets,” Greenberg Traurig Executive Chairman Richard A. Rosenbaum said. "Greenberg Traurig is the only BigLaw firm to open its doors on and bring the resources of a top tier global platform to Long Island.”
During his tenure as Islip Town Attorney, DiCioccio was the Chief Legal Officer for the Town of Islip serving as Counsel to the Town Board, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Industrial Development Agency. As Town Attorney, DiCioccio was involved in all facets of the town’s land use process, was responsible for defending the town in all federal and state litigation including defense of Article 78 proceedings and handled all real estate transactions and leasing involving town property. While at the Town of Islip, DiCioccio also maintained a private practice representing clients in residential and commercial real estate transactions and leasing, land use applications before municipal boards outside the Town of Islip, and all related litigation.
“Working as a Town Attorney on Long Island for New York’s third largest township has provided J.R. with an intimate understanding of the intricacies of local laws and processes needed in the Land Use Practice and his regional reputation and experience is a great fit with our firm. Every municipality is different and understanding the nuances of land use and development is a crucial element to representing clients in this area,” said Brian C. Doyle and John P. McEntee, co-managing shareholders of Greenberg Traurig’s Long Island offices, in a joint statement.
“The prospect of growing my practice locally at Greenberg Traurig, a firm known for its stellar reputation in land use, collaborating with its distinguished real estate professionals, and having access to premier global resources is exciting," DiCioccio said. “I look forward to working alongside a highly regarded group of lawyers on Long Island and throughout the region and building upon the firm’s strength in this area.”
DiCioccio joins other recent land use hires in the firm’s Long Island offices including Daniel J. Baker, who along with David “Rooney” J. Gilmartin, co-chairs Greenberg Traurig’s Long Island Land Use Practice.
