Morais Leitão has advised Sonae MC, SGPS, S.A., a leading company in the food retail sector and with presence in several complementary growth businesses, in the sale of a 50% stake in Maxmat to Cimentos Estrada Pedra, SGPS, Lda., a company wholly owned by Building Materials Europe, which already owns the remaining 50% of Maxmat, a company dedicated to the sale of construction, bathroom and garden materials.
The sale is pending a non-opposition decision by the Portuguese Competition Authority.
The BME Group will now own 100% of Maxmat, which has a network of 30 shops and approximately 500 employees.
Morais Leitão's team was headed by senior lawyer Fábio Castro Russo, of the Corporate, Commercial and M&A department, and also included the associate Clara Almeida, of the same department.
