Orell Füssli Ltd., a Swiss company specializing in security printing (including national currencies), participated in the bidding process for the “Printing and Supply of Banknotes” for the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN), where it was partially awarded.

Founded in 1519, Orell Füssli Ltd. is a globally recognized specialist in security printing technology, products, and solutions. Its services are personalized and primarily focus on the design, manufacturing, and supply of various security documents, such as national currencies, banknotes, passports, identification documents, and visas.

García & Bodán assisted the Swiss security printing company throughout the process. The legal team provided support and advice in Administrative Law related to the Terms and Conditions of the Bidding, ensuring a smooth, compliant, and correct process in the preparation and submission of the bid in accordance with Nicaraguan law.

The lawyers reviewed all the required local and foreign documents for the bidding submission, ensuring that the documents were legally executed in accordance with the Terms and Condition, Resolution CD-BCN-IV-1-11 and Norm on procedures for the Acquisition of Banknote Printing and Coin Minting, approved on January 31st, 2011. The main challenge was the application of complementary national legislation to the Bidding Terms, including the interpretation of the Law on State Administrative Contracting, the Civil Code, and other Nicaraguan Laws.

The transaction was led by Terencio García, Regional Managing Partner of García & Bodán, together with Valeska Fonseca, Associate of the Managua office (Nicaragua).
