The maritime industry is one of the largest and most important sectors of Norway's economy and a great many of the country's operators within offshore and traditional shipping are enjoying an increasingly international presence. In spite of the slump in the oil and gas industry, oil and gas-related offshore activities will have an important role to play for many years to come. Mariculture, aquaculture, offshore wind power and maritime tourism are also on the increase.
Selmer has invested a great deal in oil, gas and offshore in recent years, which has led to a robust market position, and the appointment of Norman will boost our competence in maritime law and activity, allowing us to expand our range of services for existing and new clients.
"We are proud to have Norman on board. Norman is passionate about his profession and is sure to bring valuable skills in maritime law and international shipping and offshore contracts to Selmer, says Liv Monica Stubholt, Head of Selmer's Department of Trade, Energy and Industry."
In particular, Norman has assisted shipping companies, charterers and various suppliers within the oil service sector with shipping and offshore-related contracts such as charter, leasing and management agreements, various types of service agreements and a number of construction and manufacturing contracts. He has provided services in the purchasing and sale of ships and other vessels and has also extensive experience in dispute resolution, having dealt with arbitration cases in the UK and Singapore.
"Norman has experience in the industry that relates directly to our clientele, and he will do much to strengthen our position among Norwegian and international offshore maritime and shipping companies, says Nils Bugge, Head of Selmer's Offshore Team."
Norman Hansen Meyer has been a lawyer with Nordisk Skibsrederforening since 2011. He has built up a truly international experience, having worked for Thommessen and as a legal advisor at Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics and Wilh. Wilhelmsen Investments in Australia. He has also worked in Singapore for Nordisk Skibsrederforening. Norman has a strong professional commitment, an LLM from the University of Oxford and has worked as a scientific assistant at the Nordic Institute of Maritime Law in Oslo. Norman has also lectured at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Law.
Selmer has assumed a leading position in providing legal advice to the oil, gas and offshore industry in recent years. Selmer's Offshore Team is recognised for its specialised skills within the industry, and currently works closely with some of the leading operators within the offshore and shipping sector. We provide assistance to Norwegian and international oil service companies and suppliers of equipment, shipping companies, dockyards, seismic companies, banks and financial institutions with contracts, transactions, dispute resolution and financing. Over the past year we have also strengthened our skills in offshore wind power by recruiting Håkon Sandbekk from Statkraft, and are in the process of establishing a dedicated team of experienced lawyers specialising in mariculture.
