In the past year, our Australian team has provided IP advice to a broad range of clients in a broad range of industries.   We also provide pro-bono services in IP law to clients including frequent advice to referrals from the Arts Law Centre, Mission Australia, Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia Foundation and Children's Book Council of Australia.

Recently, Bird & Bird's Australian IP team has handled cutting-edge litigation including:

  • Successfully defending GSK and Novartis in Federal Court proceedings issued by the ACCC regarding the branding of Voltaren Osteo Gel. 
  • Representing both Generic Health/Lupin and Alembic Pharmaceuticals in the 6 week trial for recovery of compensation in the Efexor patent proceeding in the Federal Court.
  • Acting for Dongkuk Steel in defending patent infringement (and revocation) proceedings brought by BlueScope Steel in respect of patents relating to BlueScope’s Next Gen galvalume product.
