Cains’ Litigation team is best known for having the strength and depth to manage high-value, complex disputes, or disputes which are multi-jurisdictional. Any large litigation matters on the island tend to be dealt with by the two tier 1 firms.
We are known for dealing with high-profile, complex cases, many of which have resulted in the developments and clarifications of Manx law by the IOM Courts. We have in our team former First Deemster, David Doyle CBE (“One of the Manx Bar’s greatest ever legal minds”), who assists with our cases. In addition to David Doyle, we have other specialists in the team who have held high-profile roles on the island, including the former Head of Enforcement at the FSA and the former Head of the Island’s Financial Intelligence Unit. Collectively, our team has over 200 years of commercial litigation experience, more than any other firm on the island.
The team advises on insolvency, commercial and corporate disputes, asset tracing, fraud and trust litigation cases. In addition, clients increasingly look to Cains to provide them with advice and assistance in connection with compliance, governance and financial regulatory issues. We have significant experience at all levels of the Isle of Man Courts and with our depth of expertise, we are, in many cases, able to run cases in-house without involving external advisory Counsel.
The team acts for domestic and international banks, alternative lenders, corporates and private equity sponsors.
