Carter-Ruck represents clients before the UN Ombudsperson, in the European Court of Justice, and in domestic judicial reviews of administrative decisions relating to sanctions, and undertakes work outside of a conventional legal context - e.g., advocating clients’ cases in negotiations with various institutions of the EU and the UN or with government departments and law enforcement agencies in the UK, the USA and many other countries.
The team has extensive experience in litigation, dispute resolution and administrative and regulatory processes involving an international or diplomatic context, taking place before international judicial tribunals, domestic courts and arbitral tribunals, together with administrative proceedings before a host of national or supranational authorities.
The firm have specific expertise in the field of asset freezing measures, or “targeted sanctions”. These sanctions involve individuals and entities having their assets frozen (and often their liberty to travel curtailed) by international entities such as the United Nations and the European Union, or by national entities such as the UK, US, Australia or Canada.
