Kirkland’s Cybersecurity & Data Privacy group focuses on the evolving business, technological and legal issues relating to ensuring the appropriate privacy protection and disclosures regarding collection of consumer and employee data, and ensuring the security of business’ data networks. Our full-service, multidisciplinary practice counsels clients regarding the evolving web of global cybersecurity and data privacy regulations, including the U.S. SEC Cybersecurity Rules, EU and UK GDPR, China Cybersecurity Law, HIPAA, COPPA, and many others.

Our work includes reviewing and advising on the plans and policies of business organizations’ related to cybersecurity and data privacy issues, including those of Fortune 500 companies, leading private equity firms, and other multinational financial institutions. In addition, in the immediate aftermath of a security incident, we provide companies with trusted advice and, working closely with in-house personnel and industry-leading forensic consultants, assess and isolate systems that may have been breached; identify stolen or lost data; determine legal and contractual notification obligations; develop internal and external communications; and, should a threat actor be identified, provide real-time guidance to review options, gain insight into their motivations, and evaluate the legal and business implications of responding to monetary demands.
