About

Provided by Leigh Day

Leigh Day’s clinical negligence department started in 1987 and is one of the country’s most established legal departments dealing with patients who have been injured in a healthcare setting.

The team has been instrumental in the development of the law in medical negligence cases. The department contains 45 legal specialists, many with medical backgrounds. This includes 10 Partners and 17 Solicitors, dealing with some of the most catastrophic injuries on behalf of patients and their families.

The team deal with the trauma of often serious injury through forging deep bonds with their clients and their families, at what for many will be the worst times of their lives.

Leigh Day are not afraid to take on cases that other firms may find difficult. They use their experience and standing to campaign for the rights of the individual to improve patient safety and healthcare and for access to justice. This work includes responding to government consultations on Fixed Recoverable Costs in clinical negligence, the Rapid Resolution Redress Scheme, and to the National Screening Committee on antenatal screening for Group B Streptococcus.

Working closely with APIL and AvMA to ensure patients do not lose access to justice.

Working with and supporting a number of charities and NGOs specialising in healthcare issues.

Leigh Day also represent many bereaved families at inquests, with a dedicated Inquest Partner, and ensure that bereaved family members are supported from the very beginning.
