Our law firm's history is intertwined with the history of the country's major corporate operations. José Orlando Lobo, one of the firm's founding partners, is internationally recognized for his expertise in mergers and acquisitions, corporate law. He advised on the split-up of Autolatina (the former joint venture between Volkswagen and Ford in Brazil), the sale of Cervejarias Kaiser to Molson, the acquisition of Leão Junior (Matte Leão) by Coca-Cola and the separation and sale of the Chrysler business in the country by Mercedes-Benz.

The M&A sector is quite robust. It accounts for almost a quarter of the firm. Without a doubt, it is a fairly representative team, particularly given its historical significance. Still, we know we are a robust full-service law firm with significant initiatives in different areas. Nowadays, we have a managing partner who is not involved in M&A. In 2023, Marcelo Bez Debatin da Silveira, from the Tax area, was chosen for the position for the three-year mandate. It signals the firm's commitment to all areas.

last year was a challenging year for the M&A area in Brazil. Political and economic issues, both internal and external, left the business environment uncertain. Even so, we reaped the rewards of a mature, long-term relationship with several clients. We work with large and complex operations.
