Health and welfare plans – McDermott has the best and largest healthcare and employee benefits practices in the US, enabling us to offer dedicated health benefits specialists who advise numerous health and welfare plans. 

M&A/private equity – We regularly advise M&A clients on acquisition/disposition transactions, involving complex benefits matters, including issue spotting and risk assessment in the due diligence process, planning for continued/post-transaction benefits and providing cohesive benefits to employees.

Executive compensation – Our Chicago lawyers handle a large amount of executive compensation work, advising public companies, compensation committees and management on employment/severance agreement negotiations to tax and securities compliance matters.

Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) litigation – Alongside advisory and transactional work, the group works on a significant amount of contentious employee benefits work, including litigation under ERISA.

Stand-alone practice – McDermott invests heavily in employee benefits as a stand-alone “power alley” for the firm. Clients come directly to the firm for employee benefits advice, and stand-alone clients generate most of our work in Chicago.
