SSEK’s competition practice group works closely with the M&A team in securing approvals from Indonesia’s Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) in connection with acquisitions. We are able to leverage its more than two decades of experience and network of relationships in government offices to best represent clients’ interests at the KPPU.

Our lawyers advise clients on possible vertical restraints in agreements, in particular distribution agreements.

Recent work highlights

• ​Acting as the Indonesian merger filing panel firm for a Magic Circle law firm with a major global merger filing practice
• Providing Indonesian competition law and merger control advice to a leading Asian trading company with global subsidiaries and operating divisions related to its proposed acquisition of and contemplated collaboration with another Asian trading company with a significant presence in Indonesia
• Successfully defending a large automotive parts manufacturer against a consumer lawsuit related to alleged cartel practices
  
• Assisting and advising a large Asia-based insurance company with anti-trust issues related to its acquisition of a substantial Indonesian finance company, including voluntary consultation with and post-acquisition notification to the KPPU
  
• Assisting a large hotel and serviced apartment owner-operator headquartered in Hong Kong with the merger filing requirements with the KPPU in connection with its acquisition of an Indonesian property company
