Main Areas of Practice:  

Corporate: 

Archer’s corporate department provides comprehensive services to business clients, including general corporate representation and contract negotiation, formation and structuring of business entities and joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, securities law representation, and debt and equity financings of both a private and public nature, including municipal bonds. The corporate department also counsels tax-exempt and not-for-profit organizations, providing advice on federal tax-exempt determinations and audits, reorganizations, tax exemptions, charitable giving issues, and lobbying and political activities.

Bankruptcy: 

Archer’s bankruptcy, restructuring and insolvency litigation group counsels domestic and foreign clients in all types of insolvency and litigation matters. The bankruptcy group provides guidance and counsel to business, institutional and individual clients in reorganizing and resolving both their own financial challenges, as well as dealing with those of their clients and customers.

Environmental:  

Archer’s environmental law attorneys handle all facets of environmental practice from litigating major cases to counseling clients on permitting, ISRA, air and water pollution, wetlands, solid and hazardous wastes, site remediation, industrial pretreatment, contract documentation, compliance counseling, lender liability, and environmental assessments and approvals needed for land sales.

Intellectual Property: 

Archer’s intellectual property practice includes attorneys with a wide range of experience in such continually evolving IP issues as patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and licensing and transfer. The group litigates a broad range of intellectual property matters in the state and federal courts, as well as administrative proceedings involving the US Patent and Trademark Office and other agencies. The group also provides counseling on strategies to protect intellectual property and avoid litigation.

Labor & Employment: 

Archer’s labor and employment attorneys are involved in every aspect of labor and employment law, including day-to-day advice, risk analysis and compliance counseling, helping employers avoid discrimination or wrongful termination charges, providing counsel on personnel policies and collective bargaining agreements, and ADR and litigation. The group’s attorneys are well-versed in complex, evolving state and federal employment laws and regulations, including requirements of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and state and federal departments of labor.

Land Use: 

Archer’s land use and environmental permitting and compliance group regularly obtains permits, approvals and certifications from local planning and zoning boards, county boards, special regional agencies, and state and federal agencies. The group also provides counseling in every aspect of land use, land development and regulatory compliance, and regularly represents landowners, builders and developers in the other facets of their businesses, such as land acquisition and financing, contracts and subcontracts, business and tax planning, resolution of labor and employment issues, and, where necessary, litigation.

Litigation: 

Archer’s litigation department is its largest, with more than 100 lawyers and several formal practice groups, covering labor and employment, environmental litigation, personal injury litigation, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, and commercial litigation. Archer’s litigators also are members of such interdepartmental practice groups as computer and IT law, education law, environmental law, estates law, healthcare law, intellectual property, and media and communications law. Archer’s attorneys practice in state and federal trial and appellate courts, and also are experienced in such alternative dispute resolution mechanisms as mediation, arbitration and mini-trials.

Real Estate: 

Archer’s real estate attorneys handle matters involving every facet of the sale, leasing, development, financing, acquisition, use and permitting of real property. They regularly handle complex multi-state sales, acquisitions and financings, as well as simple real estate transactions. Clients include national and regional developers, builders, brokers, banks and investors, mortgage and insurance companies, and myriad industrial and commercial enterprises.

Estates & Trusts: 

Archer’s estates and trusts department provides estate, business continuity, charitable giving and elder care planning, estate and trust administration and litigation services, as well as tax services to individuals, professionals and institutions. Archer’s attorneys are highly experienced in taxation issues and fiduciary litigation, and many are Certified Public Accountants.

Government Affairs:
