Friedland Cianfrani was founded in 2023 as an IP boutique by Michael Friedland and Joseph Cianfrani. Messrs. Friedland and Cianfrani had both been partners at Knobbe Martens for more than 25 years. Both had, moreover, led the litigation practice at Knobbe Martens; Mr. Friedland had been the co-chair of the firm's litigation practice group, and Mr. Cianfrani had been the chair of its litigation group.

Friedland Cianfrani distinguishes itself as IP firm in several respects. All attorneys are highly experienced -- offering no less than 10 years of IP experience. All attorneys are highly credentialed -- they are exclusively graduates of Harvard Law School, University of Virginia Law School, and Vanderbilt Law School. And all of the attorneys work together in person. In this way, the firm believes that it produces work product equal to that of the highest quality work of large law firms, but with far greater efficiently than large firms that employ inexperienced associates and lawyers working from home.

The firm's lawyers' experience is unparalleled. They have collectively represented clients in more than 300 intellectual property cases in courts across the U.S., including federal district and appellate courts, state courts, the Patent Trials and Appeals Board, the Trademark Trials and Appeals Board, and before the World Intellectual Property Organization. They have also represented clients in arbitration and mediations. The litigation practice is led by Mr. Cianfrani.

The firm also offers its clients all trademark legal services, including prosecution, search, and clearance. The trademark practice is led by Nicole Townes, formerly in-house trademark counsel at Amazon and also a former partner at Knobbe Martens.
