Career
Amir is co-chair of Shook's Class Action and Appellate Litigation Practice Group. Amir dedicates his national practice to defending food, beverage, consumer product, drug, medical device and automobile manufacturers in individual, mass tort and class actions throughout the country.
With wide-ranging experience, Amir serves as trial, class action and appellate counsel. He also regularly serves as lead counsel in mass and aggregated litigation, including JCCP and MDL proceedings, where his strategic leadership has helped secure numerous favorable outcomes.
He has handled more than 100 class actions throughout the country, in states that include California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas and Washington. Amir has also helped defend parallel class actions in Australia, Canada and Israel. In securing numerous favorable results, Amir has helped positively develop the law.
In addition to class litigation matters, Amir also counsels and represents clients in other forms of mass and aggregated actions. Some of Amir’s leadership roles in recent years have included serving in lead roles in both federal MDLs and California JCCPs. His JCCP work has included lead roles in JCCPs throughout California, including in Alameda, Los Angeles, Orange County, Sacramento and San Francisco.
Amir has also served both as trial counsel and as trial legal issues counsel in cases in federal and state court cases throughout California. At the same time, he has handled numerous appeals in California state court and the Ninth Circuit. Appeals in the last few years have included complex issues related to product defect, innovator liability, expert admissibility, and JCCP procedural issues.
Professional Memberships
Amir has held a number of bar and civic leadership positions. For example, he has served as chair of the ABA Tort, Trial, and Insurance Practice Section’s Products Liability committee, and was the founding chair of the ABA TIPS Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, and Biosciences committee. Regionally, Amir is part of the California Minority Counsel Program and involved in local bar groups.
