Daniel Salemi, partner and co-chair of the multiemployer plan practice, counsels clients on the full range of issues related to retirement plans, health and welfare plans, plan investments (under ERISA and individual US state laws), and deferred and equity-based compensation arrangements, helping them design and maintain state-of-the-art benefit plans to achieve unique operational goals. Dan's broad experience in the employee benefits area includes the representation of clients in collective bargaining, litigation, and mergers and acquisitions. He represents plans and plan sponsors across the United States in various sectors, including public, private, and nonprofit organizations, as well as multiemployer funds, employer associations, and governmental benefit plans.

He's has had a strong focus on the multiemployer plan area throughout his career. In addition to serving as management-appointed counsel to multiemployer funds, he also represents contributing employer clients with respect to all issues related to participation in multiemployer funds, including multiemployer pension withdrawal liability and other issues related to participation in multiemployer pension and health/welfare plans. In this area of his practice, he represents employers in a variety of contexts, including litigation, collective bargaining, workforce restructuring, subcontracting, corporate transactions, and plant relocations and closures. He represents multiemployer funds and employers in virtually every industry, including construction, food, transportation, baking, manufacturing, hospitality, textiles, and entertainment.

He frequently speaks on employee benefit plan compliance issues and has presented to the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, the Worldwide Employee Benefits Network, the American Bar Association, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and the Illinois Association of School Boards, among others.

Additionally, he has authored articles published in Benefits Magazine, Bloomberg BNA, Benefits & Compensation Digest, NACUANOTES, Employee Benefit Plan Review, and The Corporate Executive.
