Elizabeth (Liz) Pillon is a partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group and Head of the Restructuring and Insolvency Group in the Toronto office. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation with an emphasis on complex and contentious restructuring and insolvency matters. Liz brings over 20 years’ experience to her restructuring and insolvency practice, which includes corporate statutory restructurings, Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA), receivership and bankruptcy proceedings, as well as cross-border and global insolvency and restructuring proceedings.

Liz has played a role in many of the most high-profile restructuring and insolvency matters and is highly regarded by clients and peers as an advisor who can devise optimal solutions for clients in complex domestic and international situations. Liz has advised on precedent-setting matters while representing debtors, monitors, receivers, trustees, secured creditors, purchasers of assets from insolvent estates, across multiple industries, including automotive, cryptocurrency, education, energy, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, mining, pulp and paper, real estate, retail, telecommunications and transportation. She has also been appointed by the Court to act as representative and independent counsel in restructuring proceedings. Liz frequently appears before the Ontario Superior Court (Commercial List). She has also appeared before the Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec Courts in restructuring matters.

Most recently, Liz has been recognized as one of the leading restructuring advisors by national and international authorities including, Best Lawyers in Canada, Chambers Canada and Chambers Global, Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, and Benchmark Canada Litigation. Liz was also recently recognized as a global female transaction professional in International Financial Law Review Women Leaders. These recognitions highlight Liz’s strength of expertise and her consistent focus and determination to exceed client expectations.
