Eric Kraeutler, on counsel as part of the intellectual property practice, has spent more than 40 years as a commercial, white collar, and intellectual property litigator with Morgan Lewis. Following his September 2023 retirement, he now serves as counsel to the firm while devoting his energy to civic activities and pro bono representations. He serves as chair of the Committee of Seventy, a nonprofit civic leadership organization that advances representative, ethical, and effective government in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. He is also a trustee of the Keasbey Memorial Foundation, which awards scholarships to students from select colleges and universities in the United States for postgraduate study in the United Kingdom.
He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2013–2023) and Best Lawyers in America (2008–2024). In the 1980s, he served as an assistant US Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, focusing on money laundering and complex business crimes. In the 1990s, as a special Pennsylvania deputy attorney general, he oversaw a statewide grand jury that voted to indict Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Rolf Larsen and issued an investigation report that became a catalyst for judicial discipline reform. He also testified before the Pennsylvania Senate at the historic impeachment trial of Justice Larsen.
He served as leader of Morgan Lewis’s intellectual property practice from 2014 to 2020, during which time the practice grew to include more than 200 lawyers and other professionals around the globe.
In addition to his practice leadership, he was a longtime member of the firm’s Advisory Board, including service as the lead Advisory Board member. For many years, he served as the firmwide hiring partner, and he was a founding member of the firm’s Diversity Committee.
