Band 5
Provided by Ian Shapiro
Ian Shapiro is a member of Cooley's litigation department leadership team and the head of business litigation for the East Coast. He represents individuals and companies in complicated and hard fought commercial disputes in state and federal courts and arbitrations throughout the US. While he has represented every type of company in nearly every type of case, his experience is not in any particular industry or legal subject, but in sizing up a case and developing its facts and the law to ensure his clients have every conceivable chance of prevailing.
Before law school, Ian spent several years in New York City government for the Mayor's office, the New York City Council, and as the chief-of-staff of one of New York City's agencies. He was also one of Mayor Bloomberg's appointees to the Panel for Educational Policy, the successor to New York City's Board of Education, and currently serves as a director of Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, the education, research and litigation arm of Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country.
Ian received his JD from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. He clerked for the Honorable Michael B. Mukasey, Chief Judge of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
