Jeff Reed is a partner with Kilpatrick Townsend, and chairs the firm’s State and Local Tax Practice. Jeff handles state tax litigation, representing public and private companies and individuals in court and in administrative appeals with revenue agencies throughout the United States, especially with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, and the New York City Department of Finance. Besides New York, Jeff is also admitted in Massachusetts, handles Massachusetts state tax controversies, and began his career litigating state tax cases for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
Jeff’s tax controversy experience spans a wide variety of tax types and jurisdictions, including state corporate income tax litigation, sales and use tax litigation, residency litigation, and US Tax Court litigation.
In addition to his controversy practice, Jeff also advises on the anticipated state tax consequences of complex transactions and on the application of state and local tax laws to cutting-edge business models. Jeff is a columnist for several tax industry trade publications, is regularly quoted by Law360 on State and Local Tax Topics, and is on the Executive Committees for the American Bar Association’s State and Local Tax Section, and for the New York City Bar Association’s State and Local Tax Committee. Jeff has repeatedly been recognized as a rising star by Super Lawyers.
