A veteran courtroom litigator and jury trial advocate, he regularly represents clients pursuing claims against insurance and reinsurance carriers, as well as in complex business disputes. John counsels energy, manufacturing, transportation, fintech, food, investment funds, and other major industry companies in their most challenging matters.

Nationally and internationally recognized in the insurance and reinsurance fields, John has co-authored two leading treatises on insurance coverage disputes and D&O litigation. Chambers USA has consistently given him top ranking in Insurance Disputes for many years in both Illinois and nationwide. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel since its founding. Clients rely on John to analyze, simplify, and explain complex business concepts in a way that every juror can easily understand.

John began his career as a trial defense lawyer in the Navy JAG Corps and has handled five death penalty cases on a pro bono basis over the years.

Beyond insurance related matters, John’s analytical insights and comprehensive litigation strategy recently helped secure a successful final judgment for a national trucking company, defeating a large EEOC Title VII employment discrimination action spanning 18 years through the district court, the Eighth Circuit, and the US Supreme Court.
