Partner John Callahan advises clients on health sector mergers and acquisitions. Public companies, private equity firms, nonprofit health systems, academic institutions and governmental entities have trusted John to assist them in executing their most critical transactions. His unique focus on corporate and healthcare law drives an efficient and client-oriented approach to executing transactions. John is Head of International Health M&A for the Firm.

John has executed hundreds of transactions involving hospitals, behavioral health companies, physician practice management platforms, laboratories, pharmacies and providers of all types. He has structured unique joint ventures between taxable and tax-exempt entities, and transactions requiring complex structures to address changing regulatory and commercial landscapes.

John guest lectured annually for ten years on health industry transactions and trends at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and Northwestern University Law School. He has taught contracts at Loyola University Law School’s Health Law Institute.

Career

John recruited the health CEOs and private equity managing partners that made up Chicago mayor, Richard M. Daley’s trade delegation to Shanghai.

After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, John worked with the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo-Scalabrini in Mexico, serving Central American refugees and migrant workers along the US-Mexican border.
