Career
Karen Hewitt is an experienced trial lawyer whose practice focuses on defending companies nationwide in contested government enforcement proceedings and related complex litigation. Karen has successfully defended cases involving the federal Anti-Kickback Statute, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the Controlled Substances Act, the False Claims Act and the Taft-Hartley Act. She also has defended companies in antitrust, trade secret and cyber matters. As a former United States Attorney, Karen has represented major companies on their most important matters involving internal investigations concerning highly sensitive topics, crisis management, legal strategy, compliance and "bet-the-company" litigation. She currently leads the defense of several companies in civil and criminal investigations and in complex business litigation. Karen is the Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's California region, which encompasses five offices and nearly 300 lawyers.
