Career
Kate Brown de Vejar focuses her practice on international commercial and investment arbitration. She has represented private corporations, sovereign states, and state-owned entities in connection with international arbitrations under the leading institutional and ad hoc arbitration rules, including those of the ICC, the LCIA, ICSID, UNCITRAL, the Mexican Chamber of Commerce, and the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association.
Widely recognized for her experience handling complex, high-profile disputes in the energy, natural resources and infrastructure sectors, including disputes in the mining industry, and arising in connection with industrial facilities, such as steel mills, cement and methanol plants. In November 2023 Kate was chosen as the next Senior Vice Chair of the International Bar Association's Arbitration Committee, a position which will see her take the helm of the committee in 2026. She is a Member of the LCIA Court and in 2023 she was appointed President of the LCIA's Latin American Users' Forum. In April 2024, she was appointed to the Governing Board of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration.
Kate is ranked in The Legal 500 US edition and Chambers USA, and was honored to receive the 2023 Legal 500 Mexico award for International Arbitration Lawyer of the Year award. In its 2023 Global Arbitration ranking, Who's Who Legal (WWL) includes her in the highest category of "Global Elite Thought Leader."
