Practice Areas
Lars Markert is a foreign law partner in the international dispute resolution department. He regularly advises Asian clients, in particular from Japan, on German and European law issues, spanning a broad range of industries and subjects. He also advises German and other European clients on their business activities in Asia. He has particular experience in complex contentious proceedings involving post-M&A, commercial, distribution, product liability, manufacturing and construction, and in areas such as life sciences, automotive and energy.
Lars also handles cases involving governments, and has advised foreign investors and sovereign states on issues of foreign direct investment and public international law, including related negotiations and investor-state dispute settlement. He is the acting co-chair of the Investment Arbitration Sub-Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association.
He has been involved in more than 45 international arbitrations as counsel or arbitrator under the arbitration rules of institutions such as the ICC, JCAA, KCAB, SIAC DIS, Swiss Chambers, NAI, ICDR and ICSID, as well as under the UNCITRAL Rules.
Publications
Lars published more than 75 articles and book chapters on commercial and investment arbitration in English, German and Japanese.
