Career
Martín is a member of FERRERE's Litigation and Arbitration team and he is based in the Montevideo office.
Martín works on domestic and international arbitrations, administered by the ICC, the PCA and the Arbitration Center of the Uruguay Chamber of Commerce, in commercial and investment-related matters. He represents clients in the gas distribution business, construction conglomerates, energy, mining and software companies, among others.
Between 2012 and 2015 he was part of FERRERE's Corporate and Arbitration teams. Among other projects, he participated on the team that advised the main contractor of a pulp mill in an ICC arbitration against the project’s owner. The plant remains the largest foreign investment in the history of Uruguay.
He is Co-Executive Coordinator for the Diploma program in Arbitration at Universidad de Montevideo. He is professor of Contracts in the Common Law course at Universidad de Montevideo, where he also teaches different classes on arbitration. He was an assistant professor for the Arbitration course in the Master of Law degree program at Universidad de la República.
He earned his degree as attorney from the Law School of Universidad de Montevideo (Uruguay) in 2013, and completed an LL.M. at Columbia Law School (United States) in 2016.
Personal
From mid-2016 to mid-2018, Martín worked as an associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in New York, as a member of their International Arbitration team. At Freshfields, Martín worked on some of the most important disputes in South America, representing foreign investors in investment and commercial arbitrations administered by the ICSID and the PCA. He worked on cases involving a wide range of industries, including oil, telecommunications, agribusiness and food distribution, among others.
Professional Memberships
Martín is representative for South America of the -40 Chapter of the Spanish and Ibero-American Arbitration Club and sits on the Investment Arbitration Subcommittee of the International Bar Association.
