Martin Schiessl specialises in German and cross border taxation matters with a special focus on mergers and acquisitions, tax audit and tax ruling cases. He regularly advises his clients if and when difficult cross border issues arise, and covers many sectors, including financial services and real estate.
Joined Freshfields in 1995; partner since 2001.
Martin is a member of the International Fiscal Association, of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Fachanwälte für Steuerrecht, and several other tax-related organizations.
Martin’s list of publications includes the Germany chapter in “Tax Planning for International Mergers”. He teaches tax law at the university of Frankfurt/Main.
Martin was educated at the universities of Erlangen-Nürnberg and Exeter (LL.M. in European Legal Studies) and was a DFG scholar at Bremen, worked for a year as a teaching assistant at the Université de Genève/CH, and spent his traineeship at the Oberlandesgericht Hamburg. Martin regularly teaches tax law at the University of Frankfurt.
