Career

Represents domestic and foreign clients, including financial institutions, multilateral agencies, state and privately owned companies, sponsors, and other investors in a wide array of transactions and regulatory matters in the industries of oil and gas; offshore, shipping & maritime; and energy, such as structured, project and asset-backed financings; M&As, asset purchases and divestments, joint ventures and privatizations; debt restructuring; project development and commercial contracts (such as construction, offtake and supply, operation and maintenance, charter and services agreements, inter alia). His ESG & Impact practice involves sustainable finance and energy transition matters. Rafael worked as an international associate in one of the most prestigious firms in New York. He obtained J.D., specialist in oil & gas (Brazilian Oil Agency Scholarship) and Masters in International Law degrees from the Rio de Janeiro State University and an LL.M. degree from the University of Chicago. He has authored more than 50 articles, co-edited books, is a regular speaker on topics of Oil and Gas Law, International Law, Project Finance, and Foreign Investment, and is an active member of several associations relevant to his practices.
