Practice Areas
Simon heads Rajah & Tann’s Insurance & Reinsurance practice group. He focuses on both the contentious and non-contentious aspects of insurance and reinsurance and has advised and acted for most of the major insurance companies in Singapore.
Simon has advised on policy coverage disputes in all classes of insurance which encompasses advising insurers on policy liability and strategising the best way forward for insurers in event of a dispute with their insured, as well as acting as defence counsel to resist claims by third parties and recovery action under subrogation rights.
On the non-contentious aspect, Simon has assisted clients in securing the appropriate licences to conduct their insurance or broking business in Singapore, drafting of insurance policies and advisory work in relation to regulatory issues for insurers, reinsurers as well as for intermediaries and brokers in an increasingly complicated regulatory environment. Being well-versed in insurance law and regulations, coupled with his intimate knowledge of the insurance market, Simon has been at the forefront of some of the latest insurance-based transactions such as the first three insurance-linked securities transactions in Singapore as well as the creation of the first regional insurance risk facility - the Southeast Asia Disaster Risk Insurance Facility.
