Stephan is a member of Freshfields' international tax group. He specialises in structuring and financing national and international M&A transactions, as well as reorganisations, leveraged buyouts and private equity transactions.
Career
Joined Freshfields in 1992; partner since 1994. Led the firm´s tax practice from 2000-05 and 2008-10, and was global managing partner of the firm for many years.

Author and editor of numerous publications on tax law and on private equity.
Personal
Stephan studied law at the universities of Bonn (Dr iur), Geneva and New York (LLM Tax 1990). Professor of business taxation at the University of Cologne since 2010. He speaks German, English and French.
