Practice Areas
Suzanne Kane co-manages the customs practice at Akin and counsels clients on U.S. import laws and policies affecting international trade and business. Suzanne’s experience covers a wide range of commercial and enforcement laws that U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) and other agencies administer, including forced labor and UFLPA enforcement, Section 301 and 232 tariffs, AD/CVD enforcement, duty preference programs, customs valuation and tariff classification, and civil and criminal penalty proceedings.
Career
Suzanne served over six years as a senior attorney-advisor at the Office of International Trade, Regulations and Rulings at CBP, including in the Intellectual Property Rights, Penalties and Valuation Branches.
In 2009, the Commissioner of CBP awarded her the Commissioner’s Award for her role in drafting the Importer Self-Assessment Product Safety Pilot Program. Suzanne was also recognized by the National Law Journal as a DC Rising Stars honoree in 2021.
She has been practicing with Akin since 2014, and was elevated to partner in 2020.
