Vivek Mohan is co-chair of the Artificial Intelligence practice at Gibson Dunn, where he advises clients on legal, regulatory, compliance, and policy issues with a focus on cutting-edge technology. His practice spans counseling, regulatory response, advocacy, and transactional matters, allowing him to provide clients with strategic advice whether they are developing a new product or service, responding to a regulatory inquiry, setting up a privacy program, responding to a data breach, or considering a complex transaction. Vivek draws on his background in privacy and cybersecurity law to represent clients in investigations before the FTC, SEC, DOJ, DHS, state Attorneys General, and financial services and data protection regulators around the world.
Career
Vivek previously worked at Apple Inc., where he led a legal team responsible for the privacy and security of the company’s products and services, and served as the company’s lead cybersecurity lawyer. Vivek has worked as an attorney at Microsoft, at the Internet Bureau of the New York State Attorney General (under a special appointment), and at General Electric’s corporate headquarters (on secondment), and was previously a partner at another international law firm.
Publications
Vivek is the co-editor and author of the PLI treatise “Cybersecurity: A Practical Guide to the Law of Cyber Risk” (6d. 2022), and regularly speaks at leading conferences and industry events. Vivek was affiliated with the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Project at the Harvard Kennedy School for five years, including two years in residence, and regularly guest lectures on technology regulation, including at Harvard, Columbia, and Yale Law School.
