Chambers Greater China Region Guide 2025: Highlights
New/change to our Greater China Region Legal Coverage
Following the market development and the fast-evolving legal landscape across the region last year, Chambers Greater China Region 2025 Guide is featured with the following new tables or table restructurings:
China (International Firms) rankings
• The lawyer tables of TMT: Information Technology (International Firms) and TMT: Telecommunications & Broadcasting (International Firms) merged into one under the parent table Technology, Media, Telecoms (TMT) (International Firms)
Hong Kong Bar rankings
• Trusts, Probate & Succession: The Bar (New)
China (PRC Firms) rankings
• TMT: Equity Financing (PRC Firms) scrapped
• Corporate/Commercial: Gansu (PRC Firms)’s firm rankings changed to banded rankings
• Corporate/Commercial: Qinghai (PRC Firms) adding lawyer table for the first time
China (PRC Firms) rankings - China rankings - Corporate/Commercial (PRC Firms) (new table split)
Corporate/Commercial: Chongqing
• Corporate/Commercial: Chongqing: Contentious
• Corporate/Commercial: Chongqing: Non-contentious
Corporate/Commercial: Jiangsu
• Corporate/Commercial: Jiangsu: Contentious
• Corporate/Commercial: Jiangsu: Non-contentious
Contentious vs Non-contentious sub-sections in five Corporate/Commercial (PRC Firms) sections
As above, this change has added to the three existing provincial markets (Guangdong, Sichuan, Zhejiang) where the Corporate/Commerical research is subcategorised into Contentious and Non-contentious, making it a total of five sections with such structure.
We first introduced this structure last year in Chambers 2024 Guide based on our observation of notable division and interaction between contentious practice and non-contentious practice on the provincial level. The lawyers who advise exclusively on transactions rarely come across those engaged in dispute work. Moreover, clients have more specific requirements of their mandates when sourcing the right firm and lawyer for the job.
The total number of provinces/municipalities that we offer corporate/commercial research and rankings is 27.
Chambers Greater China Region Guide 2025: Summary
We are dedicated to championing the best legal talent, wherever it exists. Driven by the rising amount of law firms participating in our research year on year and by the introduction of new practice areas as our engagement with the markets further strengthens, Chambers research coverage across the Greater China Region remains comprehensive and continues to grow.
