Bankside Chambers is one of New Zealand’s leading chambers in civil and commercial litigation, arbitration and mediation. Their ranks include barristers, arbitrators and mediators known for their legal ability, client-oriented approach, depth of experience and skilled advocacy.
Founded in 1990 when a group of barristers took up tenancies at 9 Princes Street, Auckland, the founding members moved to the current premises on Shortland Street in 2005 and renamed their set Bankside Chambers. Bankside Street intersects with Shortland Street where the building is located.
Bankside Chambers boasts a distinguished record, with many of their members serving as King’s Counsel. Several former members have held prestigious positions as Justices of the High Court and Court of Appeal, as well as judges in foreign jurisdictions, including Samoa and the Cook Islands. Both current and former members contribute to key tribunals and public bodies in New Zealand and internationally.
In 2022, some of Bankside's leading arbitrators and mediators established Bankside Singapore – the first and only New Zealand group of barristers, arbitrators and mediators committed to an enduring presence in Singapore.
