While some employee benefit groups focus exclusively on supporting the firm’s mergers and acquisitions, litigation, or financial industry practices, our Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation (EBEC) group has developed its own practice in addition to serving broader firm needs. The development of this independent practice has enabled us to develop particular strengths in various areas of EBEC legal compliance. For example, we have particular breadth and strength in helping clients navigate the rapidly changing legal landscape affecting health benefit plans. We also have developed a sizable stable of clients with defined benefit pension plans, and we are advising those clients on everything from the merger and spin-off of pension plans, to the correction of significant minimum funding failures, to the termination of billion dollar pension plans.
We advise on ERISA and related federal and state laws governing benefits and compensation for clients ranging from publicly traded, Fortune 100 corporations to privately-held and regional companies. We also have a significant presence in the tax-exempt and government sector, where we counsel health care systems, colleges and universities, churches, foundations, and governments.
Our attorneys advise in four major areas: executive compensation, qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, health and welfare benefit plans, and employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs).
