Certa Law Chambers (Certa Law or CL) was founded in 2014 and quickly picked up the pace, claiming the top-ranking spot in the legal space as one of the fastest-growing law firms in Rwanda. This extraordinary growth in operation and repute is explained and justified by the hard work put in by an experienced, interdisciplinary, and multijurisdictional team at CL. The Firm has established a mark of excellence in legal practice and transactional lawyering in Rwanda. As evidence of this, we are proud to have been nominated as the only Rwandan member of LEX AFRICA—a legal network comprising leading law firms in over 25 African countries and is Africa’s largest legal alliance.

We are socially responsible for the design of the Rwandan legal system and the ever-changing pressing societal demands of justice. With this in mind, CL has consistently been at the forefront of Public Interest Litigation which has generated constructive and guiding key jurisprudence for judicial activism in Rwanda. In support of this and in order to formalize its social responsibility role, CL is praised for its establishment of Certa Foundation, through which we extend our commitment beyond legal excellence, contributing to the broader community and embodying the ethos of social responsibility.

Our mission is realized through two strategic pillars: the Center for Justice and Advocacy and the Center for Law and Innovation. These centers focus on advocating for gender justice, promoting the intersection of law and innovation; through supporting startup empowerment, embodying our dedication to diversity, integrity, innovation, professionalism, and ethics.

CL is excited for the future, reforming and constantly evolving to match the market needs. With a good intelligent track of market changes, Certa has learned that Rwanda is going global with new emerging markets every day. Thus, the Firm is expanding both in its practicing areas and size. Areas such as Technology Law, Climate Change, Integration Law, Energy Law, Aviation Law, Entertainment Law, among others are emerging into the firm’s focus. We intend to provide a legal service that is supportive of Rwanda’s development goals. The nature of these areas demands us to go beyond Rwanda and become more of a regional and international legal player. In this direction, progress has already been made.
