Energy

In this context the firm has advised many governments; EU institutions; the Agency for Corporation of Energy Regulators (ACER); and leading gas companies, transmission system operators and energy traders; andhas provided expert evidence before the European Parliament and in arbitrations.
Environmental Law
E&A Law’s environmental law practice spans high-level advisory work; actions before national courts and tribunals and the CJEU; the environmental permitting regime, and regulatory enforcement action; environmental state aid; inter-state disputes, disputes with EU institutions and infraction proceedings; and Brexit-related matters.
The firm is very active in the area of climate change and the transition to a zero-carbon economy. A key area of expertise is assisting energy and energy-intensive companies reposition themselves to address climate change and related issues. The firm also works extensively with industry alliances in Brussels in the context of environmental matters.

E&A Law has a diverse contentious practice across international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration, public international law, and mediation.
Of particular note is the firm’s expertise in energy-related arbitrations (particularly cases involving states and state-owned entities); energy transition and climate related disputes; and public international law, both intersecting with international energy and environmental law and in areas such as the right to self-determination, human rights and geopolitics.
The firm has provided high-level advice and assistance to a range of national governments and institutions on inter-state disputes, disputes between states and EU institutions including the European Central Bank, as well as investor-state disputes including the largest claim brought to date against the EU under the ECT.
EU Law
E&A Law’s expertise covers wide-ranging matters of EU energy law, EU environmental law, EU state aid, EU competition law, free movement of goods, EU public procurement law, EU common agricultural policy, and Brexit.
Arbitrator
Ana Stanič has served as arbitrator in large energy disputes for institutions such as ICC, LCIA and SCC. She has been a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitrators in The Hague, the leading institution resolving inter-state disputes, and investor-state disputes, since 2019. In 2022 Ana was appointed by the European Commission as an arbitrator and trade and sustainable development expert in respect of bilateral disputes under EU’s trade and investment agreements with third countries.
International perspective and reach
The firm has a broad geographic reach and client base, and the vast majority of its work is international in nature. This includes considerable experience in China and across Europe, but the firm has particular credentials in matters involving South East Europe, Russia and CIS countries, notably Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia.

E&A Law was established in 2007 by Ana Stanič. Ana is a leading energy, environmental and arbitration lawyer who previously worked in various government roles as well as in leading UK and US international law firms in London.
