Actions against the Police
Daniel Cooper acted for Alfie Meadows in the police complaint and civil claim that secured a six-figure settlement against the Metropolitan Police Service after he was struck by an officer’s baton during a protest for tuition fees in 2010 requiring emergency life-saving brain surgery.
Administrative Law/Judicial Review
The firm has recently been instructed to judicially review a refusal to reopen a claim for redress for historical sexual abuse at a Children’s Home in Lambeth and issued proceedings for a high-profile claimant to challenge the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office in a claim involving diplomatic immunity.
Criminal Defence
Pratik Patel and Ben Basel are frequently instructed in some of the most serious cases the criminal courts have to deal with ranging from offences relating to terrorism in Syria, Murder and EncroChat cases (Operation Venetic). Public Inquiries
The firm represented Bereaved, Survivors and Residents (BSR’s) as Core Participants in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry (‘GTI’) which concluded in September 2024. They currently act for Non-State Core Participants in the Undercover Police Inquiry (‘UCPI’) which is investigating the ‘Spy Cops’ scandal where officers from the Metropolitan Police Service and the National Public Order Intelligence Unit were deployed undercover for almost 4 decades from 1968 - 2007 reporting on activist groups and family justice campaigns
Public Law
The firm is representing applicants to the Lambeth Redress Scheme where individuals were abused in Lambeth Children’s Homes. They also represent the survivors of horrific abuse at Red House who have commenced legal action in negligence, sexual abuse, physical assault, false imprisonment, torture, starvation, and neglect.
