In silk, Alisdair’s practice has focused on defence in high-profile professional discipline cases and serious crime. He acted for the Appellant in the landmark case on professional misconduct, SRA v Beckwith. He continues to be instructed in Magic Circle SRA investigations. He has acted successfully for well-known figures in the City in FCA investigations. He has successfully advised England footballers on criminal proceedings resulting in charges being discontinued. He acted for Jim Boyling in the misconduct proceedings arising from the high-profile investigations into sexual relationships by undercover police officers; and he appeared in the misconduct proceedings arising from the stop of athletes Bianca Williams and Ricardo dos Santos. He appeared in R v Harrison and others – the manslaughter case arising from the tragic deaths of 39 Vietnamese migrants in a lorry. He successfully defended Ringo Starr’s grandson on allegations of assault. He is heavily sought after to defend in murder allegations, fraud, and the most serious, sensitive, and complex of sexual allegations. He has considerable experience of ‘baby-shaking’ deaths and child murders. He has extensive experience of advising and representing prominent professionals accused of misconduct and criminal offences. He also has considerable experience of acting for students in university disciplinary proceedings.
