Practice Areas

As the chair of Reed Smith’s Insurance Recovery Group, Amber Finch leads a premier global policyholder-side insurance practice group at an Am Law 100 law firm. Amber represents a litany of clients from start-up businesses to middle market and Fortune 500 corporations, and she is a go-to lawyer for creating effective risk management solutions. With her litigation background, she has helped her commercial policyholder clients recover over a billion dollars in insurance proceeds. She helps clients manage risk by negotiating broader insurance coverage on the front end, negotiating insurance and indemnity provisions in deal contracts, assisting with tender and collection on insurance and indemnity claims, and litigating insurance and indemnity disputes.

In her pro bono work, Amber has volunteered to prepare briefs for the non-profit organization United Policyholders on behalf of insurance consumers. Amber also spearheaded Reed Smith’s partnership with The Bail Project, including in a national pro bono effort focused on bail reform and combatting racial injustice and police brutality. Amber also successfully petitioned the Ninth Circuit to vacate her legal permanent resident client's immigration removal order. In its published opinion, the Ninth Circuit granted the petition in its entirety and vacated the detention order. Previously, Amber volunteered at the Central District of California's Federal Pro Se Clinic and served as a board member of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles.

Amber is a past president of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, a nonprofit committed to the advancement and development of women of color in the legal profession. She is currently a Board Member of Crystal Stairs, Inc. and a member of the Board of Councilors of the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, where she also served as an adjunct professor of legal writing, research and advocacy.
