Mr. Grunewaldt is an expert IP litigator and leader of the firm’s civil and criminal litigation practice, which is often centered on patent matters. He previously worked in the National Prosecutor's Office and has taught at Universidad de Chile, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and Universidad Finis Terrae, and has been invited to make presentations in local and international seminars on IP and economic criminal law. In addition, he is author of several IP articles and papers.

While working in the Economic Crimes Branch of the Attorney General's Office, he was involved in the only patent infringement case that reached oral trial and in which the accused had been convicted. In addition, he worked for two years at the Albagli Zaliasnik law firm in charge of all patent matters, advising pharmaceutical companies in particular.

One of the most important star cases he has been involved with is the Drag Pharma's defense in two pharmaceutical patent cases linked to salmon treatment where Silva achieved positive results for the client. Also, he successfully defended the company RTS in a civil lawsuit for alleged infringement of a utility model.

He is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), the Chilean Association of Intellectual Property (ACHIPI), and the Intellectual Property & CyberLaw Society at Duke Law School.

In 2013, he was appointed as a NIC Chile Arbitrator in the .CL Domain Name Dispute Resolution System. He was also invited by the Ministry of Justice in 2013 to work with the commission responsible for drafting the new Criminal Code to propose new regulations for crimes against IP and copyrights, which is currently under congressional review.
