Andrew Lane has been at the forefront of the Social Housing Bar for many years. He is regularly instructed by local authorities, private registered providers and the leading private solicitors firms in this area on the full range of social housing issues (including licensing) both in respect of litigation and policy/regulatory issues.

Additionally, he works in the broader public law field, whether that be free-standing challenges (such as homelessness appeals or judicial reviews) or as part of existing proceedings (for example, public sector equality duty and s. 11 Children Act 2004 defences to possession claims). He is known for his instinctive client care skills, thorough knowledge of the law, tactical awareness and exceptional advocacy skills.

His recent appearances in the higher courts include: Hussain v Newham LBC [2024] H.L.R. 10, R (AB) v Westminster City Council [2024] H.L.R. 30, Salix Homes v Mantato [2019] 1 WLR 3609, Hertfordshire County Council v Davies [2020] EWHC 838 (QB), Z v Hackney LBC [2020] 1 WLR 4327, Stanley v Welwyn Hatfield BC [2021] HLR 12, TM v Metropolitan Housing Trust [2022] 1 WLR 2161 and R (Gomes) v Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea [2023] EWHC 778 (Admin).

Andrew is an established speaker at seminars and conferences, and is currently authoring the third edition of “Cornerstone on Social Housing Fraud”.
