Ángel Escalante is partner at CMS Woodhouse Lorente Ludlow. He specializes in tax law (particularly international tax law), including contentious and non-contentious matters, as well as anti-money laundering. He has more than 20 years of experience advising in various sectors, including private clients, finance, real estate, foreign trade, infrastructure, and energy. He is recognised as one of Mexico's key experts in complex tax matters involving litigation and tax consulting.

He is currently the lead partner of the tax and litigation practice of the firm where he is a member of the CMS Tax, Private Clients and Tax Controversy groups.

Career

Ángel graduated from the Escuela Libre de Derecho (2004, magna cum laude), Master in Tax Law from Universidad Panamericana (2008). Likewise, he is a Certified Public Accountant from the Escuela Bancaria y Comercial (2022). He is a certified Advanced Practitioner in International Taxation (APCIT) by the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), and has several diplomas in tax, transfer pricing and compliance.

Professional Memberships

He’s currently serving as secretary of the Tax Commission of the World Compliance Association, Mexico Chapter (WCA), is a member of the steering committee of the Mexico Chapter of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a member of the Tax Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA).

Before joining CMS, Ángel was a tax partner in another recognized Mexican Law firm and was founding partner of the boutique firm Escalante & Asociados (E&A) for seven years.

He is recognized by leading international legal publications such as Chamber and Partners, Legal 500, International Tax Review (ITR) in tax and Leaders League, contentious and non-contentious, and foreign trade.
