Practice Areas
Bart Bierman advises Dutch and international banks and other financial institutions on the impact on their business of regulatory law, financial civil law and derivatives law. He is an expert in regulatory rules impacting a financial institution’s internal organization, capital adequacy and governance. He regularly assists in license applications and acquisitions and reorganizations in the financial sector.
Bart advises on Dutch and EU regulatory frameworks such as the Capital Requirements Directive and Regulation (CRD IV/CRR), the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD), the Banking Union (SSM and SRM), the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR), the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II), the Payment Services Directive (PSD II) and the Principles for Financial Market Infrastructures (PFMIs).
Career
Admitted to the Bar in 2006, NautaDutilh until 2015, partner of Finnius since 2015. Bart is visiting faculty of the Hazelhoff Centre for Financial Law at Leiden University since 2015. He frequently publishes on regulatory topics and is an editor of the Dutch Journal of Corporate Law Practice (Tijdschrift Ondernemingsrechtpraktijk) the Monthly Journal of Property Law (Maandblad voor Vermogensrecht).
