Ben is head of the immigration department of Magrath Sheldrick LLP, and the firm’s Managing Partner. The firm provides advice and assistance to major multinational companies and individuals of all nationalities seeking work authorisation, skilled worker visas, family reunion and UK entry clearance. Ben is particularly focused on the financial services sector, acting as immigration counsel to major City institutions. He has experience in strategic immigration planning for large organisations and assists international assignment departments and human resources managers in developing compliance and legal right-to-work policies.
Ben speaks regularly at major immigration conferences including the International Bar Association (IBA), British American Business (BAB) and Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA). He sits on the Immigration and Citizenship committee of the American Bar Association (ABA). Ben is co-editor of the Corporate Immigration Review, an annual publication addressing immigration developments around the world. He is also technical partner for immigration to the Expat-Academy. Ben is Managing Director of Magrath Sheldrick (Global) Pte. Limited in Singapore.
Career
Ben was called to the Bar in 1994 and practised as a barrister for several years before joining the solicitor’s profession. At the Bar he focused on immigration appeals, including applications for Judicial Review of decisions made by the Secretary of State. He also took cases to the Court of Appeal and the European Court of Justice. Ben has lectured extensively on immigration issues for organisations such as BPP Professional Development, Central Law Training, and the Immigration Law Practitioners Association (ILPA). He has contributed to several publications, including ‘In-House Lawyer’.
