About

Practice Areas
Catherine has over 30 years’ experience in personal injury work, principally defender reparation for the insurance industry. In that time, she has dealt with cases spanning the full range of personal injury and liability areas including RTAs, public, employers’ and product liability, and cases with an international dimension. She is the ‘go to’ lawyer at BTO for the highest value catastrophic injuries cases. She handles complex, high value and catastrophic injury cases including amputations, spinal and brain injuries, and fatalities for some of the UK’s largest insurers.
Catherine frequently becomes involved in cases from almost as soon as the accident has happened and works with her insurance clients to plan and implement a strategy through investigating liability and quantum issues with a view to achieving the best possible outcome. She has good relationships with her opposing solicitors and is able, through early intervention, discussion and collaboration, to negotiate effective solutions for her insurance clients. Catherine is adept at guiding such cases through to fruition often through the court process, but increasingly often without litigation, reflecting our clients’ aims of reducing claims lifecycles and cost.
She has extensive court experience, including as a solicitor advocate in the Court of Session, and is able to utilise her experience using the litigation process, where appropriate, as a tool to achieve the clients’ aims.
