Career
After studying law in Fribourg and Zurich, Christian Hilti gained his first experience in the field of intellectual property law and in particular patent and trademark law at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property from 1982 to 1986.
1986 he earned his PhD degree at the University of Zürich. He was admitted to the bar in 1988 and earned a Masters Degree (LL.M.) at the University of California, UC Berkeley School of Law (1989 to 1990). He then worked in a US law firm and as assistant of Prof. Lawrence Sullivan at UC Berkeley School of Law. Christian Hilti founded his own law firm specialized in intellectual property in 1992. In January 2009 Christian Hilti joined Rentsch Partner Ltd. In 2011, he was elected by the Swiss Parliament to become a non-permanent judge of the newly established Swiss Federal Patent Court.
