Chris Bolten has extensive experience in Global Intellectual Property (IP) strategy for companies and investment firms in the areas of Technology, MedTech and Digital Health.
He is a Partner in the firm’s San Diego, California office and serves as the Deputy Practice Group Leader for the IP department. Chris is also on the global leadership teams for the Life Sciences and Technology, Media and Telecom (TMT) sectors. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and is admitted in District Courts in California, Texas and Colorado, as well as the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

• Sofinnova Partners (Paris, France) in the investment of ShockWave Medical on technology for treating heavily calcified arteries for Peripheral and Coronary Artery Disease (PAD and CAD)

Chris advises clients in many fields, including medical devices such as ultrasound and X-ray imagers, neurostimulation systems, robotics, structural heart implants, stents, shunts, prosthetic heart valves, implantable mechanical devices, ablation devices, wound dressings, diagnostics and medicine dispensers; microfluidics; telecommunications such as cellular, networking and internet technologies; and software including machine learning and AI. Chris’s practice also includes the preparation of non-infringement, invalidity, patentability and freedom-to-operate (FTO) opinions. He is experienced in representing a range of clients from prolific inventors and startup companies to venture firms and international corporations.
