Practice Areas

Ranked in: Employment; Tax; and Tax: private client.

Chris has a substantial senior-junior practice in all three practice areas. He has appeared unled at all levels of the appellate system, including the Supreme Court (R(Haworth) v HMRC) and Court of Appeal (JLT v Craven; Nautilus v Seahorse; Higgins v HMRC). He often appears in multi-day, high value cases at first instance and has a reputation as a ferocious cross-examiner who is always thoroughly prepared.

Chris is a leading expert in subjects that crossover between employment and tax, in particular employment status, IR35 and the taxation of employment income. Chris’ tax specialisms include residence and domicile and the deductibility of expenses. Chris is instructed in general commercial matters, including high-value contractual disputes, professional negligence cases (particularly solicitors’ negligence involving failed litigation) and sports disputes.
